VOOPOO DRAG 4 Review
Last Updated: September 29, 2024
A new standard has been set.
Another exciting addition to the renowned DRAG series has been introduced by VOOPOO! This device, unlike the E60 or H80S models, resembles the DRAG 3 more closely. It is powered by dual 18650 batteries and can achieve an impressive 177W output! In addition, it comes equipped with a new UFORCE tank that utilizes the beloved PnP coils. The features offered improve the usability of an already remarkable menu system, but we will discuss that in more detail shortly. So, let’s delve into the VOOPOO DRAG 4.
Appearance
First, let’s examine the mod. It exhibits a stylish combination of polished and matte metal finishes. The battery cover occupies a significant portion of the kit, available in two unique textures: a wood panel effect and a resin effect, with various color options for each style. Unlike the DRAG 2, the branding on this device is more understated, featuring a simple company logo on the edge and a sleek metal DRAG logo on the side. The edge adorned with the VOOPOO logo also includes a small leatherette panel, adding further elegance.
Compared to the DRAG 3, this device is slightly larger, resembling the size of a VOOPOO ARGUS GT II.
The face of the device is home to a fire button, a lock switch, and up & down adjustment buttons. Additionally, the front boasts a USB-C charging port. We always recommend charging removable batteries with an external charger.
This stunning device is built to an extremely high standard. The quality is apparent, and thoughtful details such as “spark your life” stitched onto the battery ribbon and “thank you for choosing DRAG” inside enhance its personal touch.
Now, moving on to the tank. Like the mod, it showcases superb build quality and shares the same metallic finish, which I appreciate. It’s frustrating when finishes don’t match. The top can be easily removed with a quarter turn, exposing the filling holes. A small yet impactful feature is the bars over the airflow holes. While they may appear purely aesthetic, they actually minimize noise when drawing from the tank.
VOOPOO DRAG 4 – Performance
Wow. This kit truly stands out. Over the past few months, I’ve reviewed many VOOPOO kits, and there has been an abundance of offerings. It’s impressive to witness VOOPOO incrementally enhancing their devices. Each release seems to include a slight modification that makes a significant impact.
Due to the numerous features of this kit, I will outline them individually.
Menu
This kit’s menu includes a plethora of options for personalization. The first is the power mode. Several options are available, so let me clarify.
Smart | Smart mode automatically reads your coil and adjusts the wattage range to the coil’s limits, preventing accidental burns. |
RBA | In RBA mode, you can set your wattage to any level you prefer. This setting is valuable if the device misreads your coils when using a different tank. |
Eco | Eco mode helps conserve battery life and providesTo maximize your battery usage, VOOPOO claims to enhance battery life by an additional 30%, although the specifics of how this is achieved remain unclear. This feature was also present in the VOOPOO DRAG E60. |
TC | Temperature Control is compatible with designated TC coils, allowing a specific temperature setting for your coils instead of focusing on wattage. The supported coils are Ni, TI, and SS. |
Another feature is the ‘switch’ function, which modifies the control of the lock switch located on the device’s front. You can toggle between two settings: one that locks the entire device and one that only secures the fire buttons. While the VOOPOO ARGUS XT incorporated this feature, it utilized a dual switch rather than a customizable option.
Additionally, it offers the ability to reset your puff counter and change the screen colour! Ever since acquiring my ARGUS GT II, I’ve eagerly awaited the introduction of this feature on a VOOPOO device. While it doesn’t impact performance, I simply enjoy customizing my screen colour.
VOOPOO DRAG 4 – Vaping Performance
This kit provides an outstanding vaping experience. The PnP coils have long been recognized for their reliability, so it’s no surprise that the latest PnP coils perform exceptionally well. They deliver impressive cloud production and remarkable flavour. The tank is not only aesthetically pleasing but also user-friendly. Typically, VOOPOO kits favor TPP coils for direct lung (DL) vaping, making the choice of PnP coils notable. I use both and found that the cloud production from PnPs is somewhat less voluminous, but I prioritize flavour over vapour, and these coils certainly excel in that aspect.
I never imagined reviewing a device that would challenge my loyalty to the ARGUS line, but here we find ourselves. It seems VOOPOO may have sent me an ultimate replacement for my GT II.
User Experience
User-friendliness is a highlight of this device, which boasts an extensive range of features simplifying the vaping process. Firstly, there’s smart mode available to assist in setting your wattage. Eco mode is beneficial for extending your device’s lifespan. The tank features a quarter-turn top fill mechanism and push-fit coils, ensuring convenience. Moreover, the kit supports quick charging via USB-C, allowing for swift recharges. Instead of the conventional battery door at the base, the batteries rest under a C-shaped magnetic cover.
Pricing
The VOOPOO DRAG 4 is priced at £59.99, marginally above the GTII or XT models. However, the superior construction and overall aesthetics of this kit justify the additional £5. Its price matches that of the SMOK MAG-18, yet I found this device to significantly outperform the latter.
The UFORCE-L tank featured in this kit is available for separate purchase at £22.99.
The new PnP-TW coils can be purchased for £13.99 per five-pack. In comparison, the older PnP coils are priced at £12.99 for five, and this device accommodates both coil types.
Target Demographic
This kit targets DL vapers, featuring coils of 0.15ohm and 0.2ohm. As a DL kit, it performs excellently, producing impressive flavour. The only potential drawback arises for high wattage DL vapers, as the maximum output is limited to the 0.15ohm coil at 70W.
However, if you’re an RDL or MTL vaper, don’t dismiss this kit! There are 0.8ohm and 1.0ohm PnP coils available for purchase. As an MTL setup, this mod would be phenomenal, with dual 18650 batteries offering extended battery life.
Final Thoughts on VOOPOO DRAG 4
This device is outstanding, powered by dual 18650 batteries and capable of reaching 177W. With numerous features that customize your vaping experience, it stands out as a remarkable kit for various vapers. Once again, VOOPOO has delivered excellence.
