At the suggestion of his preschool teacher, Jaleel began appearing in commercials at the young age of 3, including a Jello-O pudding pops commercial alongside Bill Cosby. He made a guest appearance on “The Jeffersons” in 1984 and was originally cast as Rudy on “The Cosby Show,” a role that eventually went to Keshia Knight Pulliam after Cosby decided the character should be female. In 1985, White appeared in the television film “Kids Don’t Tell” and all 18 episodes of the CBS sitcom “Charlie & Co.”. His subsequent appearances included “The Disney Sunday Movie” in 1986, “Mr. Belvedere,” the pilot of “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” and “Jay Leno’s Comedy Hour.”
