Music Journey

He later resorted to a life of crime, participating in jewelry store heists with friends. However, a car accident led him to abandon criminal activities in favor of a professional rap career. His debut single, “Cold Wind Madness,” achieved underground success despite radio stations’ refusal to air it due to explicit lyrics. “Killers,” released in 1984, marked his first politically-charged rap. Securing a deal with Sire Records, Ice-T launched his first album, “Rhyme Pays,” in 1987.

Original Gangster” stands out as his most renowned work, widely regarded as a pioneering gangsta rap album. Within the same album, he introduced Body Count, his metal band, which produced the contentious single “Cop Killer.” In 1991, Ice-T clinched a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Back on the Block.” Amidst controversy surrounding the song, he parted ways with Sire/Warner Bros., signing with Priority Records instead. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Ice-T continued to release albums with Body Count, including their most recent release, “Carnivore” (2020). In 2006, he returned to his rap roots with the album “Gangsta Rap,” winning a second Grammy in 2021 for Best Metal Performance with “Bum-Rush.”
